Photo guide
Good photos sell. Customers can't touch or smell your namkeen, so the photo does the selling. This takes about 10 minutes, and photos that follow it are approved faster.
Watch: how to take the photos
A short video with captions, no sound. It shows the cloth, the light, the framing and the mistakes we send back. About 1 minute 40 seconds.
The 5 golden rules
- Real and your ownYour own product, shot by you. No AI, drawn or downloaded images.
- DaylightNear a window in the day. No flash, no yellow tube-light.
- Plain backgroundA plain cream or white cloth. Nothing else in the frame.
- Straight and closeLabel facing the camera, filling most of the frame.
- SharpTap to focus, hold still, and check before you upload.
Before you start
- Use your phone's main (back) camera. No zoom: walk closer instead. Turn off filters and beauty mode.
- Shoot in daytime near a window. Soft daylight only: no flash, no yellow tube-light, no hard direct sun.
- Lay a plain cream or off-white cloth as the background. No patterns, newspaper, granite tops or plastic table covers.
- Wipe the pack clean: no fingerprints, dust or torn edges. Smooth out creases on the label.
- Wipe the camera lens with a soft cloth. A greasy lens makes every photo look hazy.
Two photos for every item
1. Item photo
Shows the food itself, the way it looks at home.
- Put a small portion in a plain steel or white bowl on the cream cloth.
- Shoot from straight above, or from a low angle of about 45°.
- The food should fill most of the frame; keep the bowl fully in view.
2. Pack photo
Shows the pack exactly as a customer will receive it.
- Stand the pack straight with the label facing the camera.
- Hold the phone level with the label, not tilted.
- The label should fill about 70% of the frame: not cut off, not far away.
- Use today's pack: same label, weight and MRP as what you sell now.

One photo for each size
Selling 250 g, 500 g and 1 kg? Each size needs its own pack photo, because customers see the photo of the size they pick.
- Shoot each size's own pack, not the 1 kg pack for every size.
- Make sure the weight printed on the pack is readable in the photo.
- Use the same background and light for all sizes, so they look like one family.
- To replace a photo later, go to Items & rates and tap Change photo on that size.
Do
- Take 2–3 tries and keep the sharpest one.
- Keep the whole pack or bowl in the frame.
- Shoot pack photos upright (portrait).
- Check the photo is in focus before you upload.
Don't
- Don't use AI-made, drawn or downloaded images. Real photos of your own product only.
- Don't add text, stickers, prices, logos or watermarks on the photo.
- Don't include other products, hands, people or clutter.
- Don't send screenshots or photos forwarded on WhatsApp: they lose quality.
Before you upload
- Daylight, no flash
- Plain cream background, nothing else in frame
- Item photo: food in a plain bowl, in focus
- Pack photo: label straight, filling about 70%
- Weight on the pack is readable, and it's the right size
- Pack is clean and matches what you sell today
- No text, stickers or edits on the photo
File: JPG, PNG or WEBP, up to 8 MB, at least 800 px on the short side. 1200 px or more is best: customers can zoom in on your pack. A normal phone photo is fine.
Gathri checks every photo before it goes live. We show your photo as you send it, so take it carefully. If it does not meet this guide, we will ask you to send a new one.
